Why Marketers Are the Worst at Marketing Themselves

As a marketing consultant, I’m always busy working on client campaigns, planning strategies, and helping businesses stand out. I absolutely love it, but it means my own marketing always ends up slipping to the bottom of the list.
It reminds me of a hairdresser I used to know whose hair hadn’t been cut for years. She said she was always too busy styling everyone else’s to ever get around to her own. I can definitely relate!
Like many small business owners, it’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day work, client deadlines, and projects that need attention right now. Writing blogs, updating my website, and promoting my own services often become the “I’ll do it next week” task — and then somehow, next week never quite arrives.
But here’s the thing: even though it’s hard to prioritise your own marketing, it’s still worth doing. Taking a bit of time to share insights, celebrate results, upload some more case studies or just show the human side of your business can make a big difference. So while it’s been a while since my last blog post, I’m making an effort to practice what I preach — starting with this one! More case studies on their way too.
Might also get a haircut.
