We must admit, we do like interesting stats and trends.
Don’t worry though, we’re not going to bore you with a tedious list of numbers, instead, take a look at this colourful infographic:
Some of those statistics are incredible, so let’s break them down:
Email – There are now 1.9 billion people with email access. Last year, 294 billion emails were sent – every day – and a massive 261 billion (89%) of those were spam.
Websites – Over 21 million new websites were created in 2010. Twenty-one million!
Social Media – The number of internet users increased by 14% last year, up to 2 billion with ‘Social Media’ services such as Facebook, Twitter and Youtube, all seeing massive growth.
But more importantly, what does this mean to you?
The fact that the internet is still growing, or that services such as Twitter and Facebook are increasingly popular will probably not come as any great surprise. But the sheer size of those numbers really does highlight the need to be different, or creative, or just the very best at whatever it is that you do. And, just how important and difficult it is for your message to be heard in today’s online world.
Thinking of sending an email campaign? Remember, there’s likely 294 billion other emails being sent today, so your campaign will need to float above the rest and not get lost in the vast sea of email that everybody appears to be drowning in.
Planning on launching your new website? Make sure it stands out from the other 21,399,999 websites that go online this year!
Want to effective new ways to contact your customers? There are more people online than ever to talk to – and more ways to contact them. Using new ways to engage with your customers can work wonders for your business, but don’t go shouting in the dark when 2 billion people lurk elsewhere.
